Remove EXIF and GPS location from photos before sharing
A photo can carry more than pixels. EXIF data may include the date and time, the phone or camera model and, if location was on, the GPS coordinates of where it was taken. Many sites remove it when you upload. Email, cloud links and some messengers may not.
What this tool does
It opens the image, redraws it and saves a new file. By default, the new file contains the picture without EXIF or GPS. Leave "Keep camera details and location" unticked; choosing it copies JPG metadata, including location, to JPG output. The photo is not uploaded. Everything runs in your browser.
Steps
Drop the photos in the tool.
Keep the format the same, or pick JPG for iPhone HEIC files.
Set quality to 90 or higher if you want to keep as much detail as possible.
Download. Open the file properties to check that location and camera fields are gone.
Honest limits
This re-encodes the image. JPG, WebP and AVIF are lossy, so a little detail is lost each time. Use PNG output for a lossless copy.
The embedded colour profile and the orientation tag are not kept. The picture is rotated correctly in the new file.
Metadata in the picture itself, such as a visible street sign or a reflection, is not touched.
The file name is kept apart from the added -compressed suffix. Rename it if the name gives details away.
