Convert PNG to WebP in your browser

WebP is an image format from Google that handles photos and transparency and is supported in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. For many images a WebP file is noticeably smaller than the PNG or JPG it replaces.

When it helps

When to stay with PNG

Keep PNG for pixel-exact screenshots you edit further, for software that does not read WebP, and for print workflows. WebP in this tool is lossy, so each conversion removes a little detail. Keep your originals.

Steps

  1. Open the tool and drop your PNG files.
  2. Choose WebP as the output. Quality 80 is a sensible start.
  3. Compare the sizes shown, then download one file or a ZIP.

Your files stay yours

The conversion runs in your browser with a local WebP encoder. Nothing is sent to a server.
