How to make an SRT file from a video

What an SRT file is

An SRT file is plain text. Each caption has a number, a start and end time, and one or two lines of text. Almost every video editor, player and platform accepts it.

Make one from your video

Drop the video into the Caption Maker. It listens to the audio on your device, splits the speech into short captions of at most two lines, and shows them next to the video. Edit the text, split or join captions, or shift all the timing, then download the SRT.

Keep captions easy to read

Two lines of about 42 characters or fewer, on screen for at least a second, and never overlapping the next caption. The Caption Maker follows these defaults and marks captions that are too fast to read.

Free and paid

The free version captions the first 3 minutes of each file. The one-time offline pack removes the limit, adds a more accurate model and works offline.

Longer files and offline launch files are planned for a one-time $24 pack, not yet for sale: Pack in preparation
