A badge has one job: let a stranger start a conversation without squinting. Most badges fail it by cramming. These are the rules that hold up at real events.
The first name should be readable from two meters: the biggest text on the badge by far. Long names shrink, never wrap into tiny type. If everything on the badge is the same size, the badge has no information.
Company or organization in much smaller type. Role titles are optional; at most events "where" beats "what". Skip emails, phone numbers and QR clutter unless the event is built around scanning.
Speakers, VIPs, staff and sponsors get their own accent color so attendees can spot them across a room. A small category label helps; the color does the work at distance.
Matte holders beat glossy for glare. Print a test sheet. And keep the bottom quarter clear: hanging badges curl, and that is where text goes to disappear.
