How to get text from an image without uploading it

The problem with online converters

Most image to text sites send your picture to their server. For an ID, a contract or a bank letter that is a poor trade for a few typed lines.

What works

A photo or screenshot in JPG, PNG or WebP. Crop to the text if you can, and make sure it is the right way up. Higher resolution helps more than anything else.

Steps

Add the image, pick the language, press Read the text. Edit the result in the box, then copy it or download a .txt file.

When it will not work well

Handwriting, very small or blurry text, text over a busy photo, and curved or skewed pages. Try a sharper picture before blaming the language.
