Turn a Square Transactions export into a monthly summary and a journal.
Drop in your Square Transactions CSV files. See each month split into money in and money out with Square's fees broken out and every Event Type listed. The pack lets you give each Event Type an account and gets you a journal CSV per month. Nothing is uploaded.
Tested only on made-up files, never on a real Square export. The column names come from Square's help and community posts, so the tool stops with a message if one is missing. Tax and tips stay inside Total Collected and are not split out. It does not check your Square account or your bank. Compare the totals with your Square reports before you rely on them.
Set these to match your files before you drop them. Nothing is guessed. Limits: 20 files, 40 MB each, 200 MB in total, 60,000 rows per file and 300,000 in total.
What it does
Each month gets money in, money out, Square fees (Net Total minus Total Collected) and the net movement. Refund rows show up as money out. Rows whose Transaction Status is not Completed are counted and left out.
Square's Event Type names are shown exactly as written. We do not guess what they mean. In the pack you give each one an account yourself.
Each row must have Net Total equal to Total Collected plus or minus Fees. Exact copies of a row are flagged before they are counted twice.
Pay once. Work through all your months.
- All months in your files instead of the first 3.
- A journal CSV per month that passes the checks, with an account for each Event Type that you choose, and a CSV of every Event Type.
- One folder that opens in your browser with no internet. Your Square data stays on your computer.
Questions
Which export do I use?
In the Square Dashboard, go to Transactions, choose a date range, click Export and pick the Transactions CSV (the one with Fees and Net Total). The tool needs the columns Date, Event Type, Total Collected, Fees, Net Total and Transaction Status. Square's help describes Net Total as Total Collected minus fees minus other withholdings. A file where a row has other withholdings is stopped with a message.
Why do I set the currency and symbols?
The export may not say which currency the account uses, and amounts may begin with a symbol such as $. You tell the tool, so nothing is guessed. If your amounts start with a symbol, switch the setting before dropping the files.
Is the journal entry accounting advice?
No. It is a starting point built from the month's totals and the accounts you type. Tax and tips stay inside Total Collected and are not split out. Your accountant decides how Square items are booked. The tool makes no tax or accounting claims.
Has it been tested on real Square files?
No. It was tested only on made-up files. The date format and number format depend on your account, so you choose them.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The files are read on your device.
